INTER-MARTINIERE MEET

The Inter Martiniere Meet is held alternately in Kolkata and Lucknow, for both the Girls and the Boys Colleges in these two cities. It is a time when students from both the colleges get a chance to interact with each other, and at the same time participate in Inter-School basketball matches, swimming competitions and debates. The meet fosters the spirit of friendship. The Martinian spirit is brought to the fore because at the end of the meet, whichever team wins, it is La Martiniere which wins after all.

 

INTER MART MEET 2017

BASKET BALL MATCH:

The first event for the girls saw the Kolkata team lead by 6 points while Lucknow team was love. The match progressed with Kolkata maintaining a steady string of baskets at regular intervals. Lucknow team fought back and the score at the end of the third quarter was Kolkata 28 while Lucknow was 14. The beginning of the fourth quarter saw some well timed baskets and the score stood at Kol 34 Lko 20. The final score on the board read Kol 44 Lko 28. Congratulations to both teams for a wonderful match!

 

DEBATE:

The 72st Inter Martiniere Debate took place on the eve of 23rd August, 2017 at La Martiniere for Girls in which the motion was defeated and the Kolkata team were the winners.

The topic for the evening was "The 'E-world' of today is one of emptiness". The Kolkata team speaking in opposition while Lucknow team, in favour. The motion was defeated and Kolkata team declared winners. In a first, three students were adjudged best speaker - all three went to Kolkata. Congratulations Kolkata!

 

SWIMMING MATCH:

The Inter-Mart swimming relays were held at La Martiniere for Girls, Kolkata on 24th August, 2017 in which Kolkata was victorious.

An exhilirating event, the swimmers of both the teams displayed utmost agility..glided across the water smoothly..and gave a tough competition to each other. Their team spirit, synergy and sportsmanship commanded admiration from one and all.

Resounding claps and the traditional mart slogans thickened the air with expections and fervour. Kolkata won the Inter-Martiniere Swimming Competition. The score was Kolkata-244 / Lucknow - 136..

INTER MART MEET 2016

BASKET BALL MATCH:

The 71st Annual Inter Martiniere Meet kicked off to an exciting start with the girls basketball match, where Ms. Mehru Jaffer graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In the august presence of the Principals and Secretaries of the La Martiniere colleges, the players from Lucknow reigned in the game right from the start whistle. They dominated the court with confidence and elan with the lucknow team leading with 25—10 score at half time.

The Guest of Honour for the morning popular actor, Amit Sadh (of Kai Po Che and Sultan fame) was seen enjoying the game thoroughly.

Amidst loud cheering the home team ruled throughout with Vaishali Yadav and Eila Awasthi scoring baskets in quick succession.

The girls from Kolkata put up a brave defence but, ultimately, the trophy was lifted by the Lucknow Girls, under the captaincy of Shubhangi Pandey with a whopping lead ( 55 – 28).

The Chief Guest said this thrilling game brought back memories of 1960s when she played in the school basketball team. It was a great great game!

Mrs. A. Dass, Vice Prnncipal , La Martiniere Girls' College, thanked the players for an absolutely riveting game. She also added  that there was no substitute for hard work and the players, coaches and team secretaries had indeed worked very hard  which is how the audience could witness such an engaging game.

 

DEBATE:

The Chief Guest for the event was Mrs. Anjali Gopalan,the acclaimed founder of Naz Foundation. She has been named as one of the 100 most accomplished people of the world by the TIME magazine. The judges for the evening were Mr. V.V. Singh, Mentor of Reliance Infocom, Mrs. N. Saxena, Development Professional and a renowned lawyer, Mr. Vivek Pandit, a famous writer who has 10 books to his credit. The Chairperson for the proceeding was the famed Mr. Runil Nair, a motivational speaker and Management Consultant.

The topic for the evening was 'INDIA HAS A DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM WITH NO DEMOCRATIC VALUES'. Our girls stood against the topic. The 'War of Words' was preceded by loud cheering by both the Kolkata and Lucknow teams.

Both teams displayed grit, profound general awareness, convincing argumentative skills. They left the judges and the audience spell bound with their debating skills.
